GLO FUEL FAQ

1. What is GLO High Performance Lamp Oil? GLO High Performance Lamp Oil is a high performance and odorless burning fuel for your oil lamps. If you are interested in the brightest light and best performance your oil lamp can produce, this is the fuel to use.

2. Is GLO High Performance Lamp Oil really odorless?

The short answer: GLO High Performance Lamp Oil *burns odor-free.

The longer answer: GLO High Performance Lamp Oil is not Kerosene. Kerosene is a refined product and produces a distinctive odor when burned. GLO High Performance Lamp Oil is a distilled product and burns odor-free. The lamp oil itself has a mild odor.

3. Should I buy GLO High Performance Lamp Oil or GLO Paraffin Lamp Oil?

Oil Lanterns and Oil Lamps were designed to burn Kerosene. Therefore, you want a product with similar viscosity and a flash point close to Kerosene. GLO High Performance Lamp Oil provides both of these qualities in a high purity distilled product. Our High Performance Lamp Oil has a flash point of 149 degrees Fahrenheit. Kerosene's flash point is generally in the 100 to 150 degree F range.

Paraffin Oil (in the United States) is basically liquid candle wax and is not meant to be used in tubular lanterns or oil lamps that use flat wicks. (Paraffin's higher viscosity and high flash point causes poor performance = erratic flame and only about 1/2 as bright as our GLO High Performance Lamp Oil.)

4. Are GLO Lamp Oil products colored?

No. All of our lamp oil products are clear. Dyed lamp oil will eventually clog your wick and inhibit proper operation. In addition, dyed fuels can permanently stain your lamp or lantern.
